Agentic engineering

Andrej Karpathy's successor framing to vibe coding — the term he coined in February 2025 for accepting generated code without reading it, and later bounded rather than disowned: “Vibe coding raises the floor. Agentic engineering is about extrapolating the ceiling.” The framing is directing fallible agents under structured human oversight rather than writing the code yourself, with people in charge of the spec and the plan. The most load-bearing line is about scope: traditional computers automate what you can specify in code, and this round of models automates what you can verify — which is why capability peaks in verifiable domains.
