# Graph engineering

As used since July 2026, a name for task-graph orchestration: decompose a goal into a dependency graph, run independent nodes concurrently, gate integration behind completed prerequisites. A separate community uses the same words for code knowledge graphs, and the two have nothing to do with each other. The patterns are real and Anthropic documented them in December 2024 without ever using the word “graph”; no comparative benchmark for the labelled version exists. The advocacy literature concedes it outright: “Calling the practice graph engineering is a naming event, not a technical one.”
