AGENTS.md

AGENTS.md is a README for agents: a predictable place for the context and instructions a coding agent needs, kept separate from README.md because that one is for humans. There is no schema — it is plain markdown. Nested files are supported, and the format's own FAQ settles the precedence question in one line: the closest AGENTS.md to the edited file wins, and explicit user prompts override everything. Reported across more than 60,000 open-source projects and now stewarded by the Agentic AI Foundation under the Linux Foundation, it is the closest thing agentic coding has to a genuinely vendor-neutral convention.
